How to: New Camera Strap!

Denne posten vil kun være på engelsk til i hvert fall i morgen!

The strap you get when you buy a camera isn't too fashionable, it doesn't go with anything and everyone has the same one. Boring! So I decided to make a new one! Cool, huh? It cost me around 100 NOK in total with fabrics and spikes from Ebay so it was a really cheap DIY. The whole thing took me around 1,5 hours to make, but that's because I kept taking pictures of everything I did to make this tutorial.

I'll write down step by step what I have done under each picture.

Hope you like it!

First you start off by measuring the strap, both length and width. When you cut out your fabric, remember to add a couple of cm on each side, so I cut out 65cm length even though it was 59,5cm and 12 cm width even though it measured 8cm. Find the center point and add 5 cm on each side; this is where the leather fabric will go. Remember to add a couple of cm to the leather piece as well because of the seam we will be adding.

Pin it up and sew! Remember to use a leather needle on your sewing machine so it doesn't break. Leather is a sturdy fabric even if it's faux leather like I'm using here (no real leather, people!).

Remember that you only have 4cm to add spikes, so measure up and use a revolving punch plier to make holes for the screws. Remember to settle for a look before making the holes, because after you make them, it's done. So what I did was put them on top and move them around until I found what I liked and then I put them in the same order when I took them off so I wouldn't forget.

Put the screws in and move on. The spikes stay at the sidelines for now.

Start folding in one side and use pins to hold it down. Sew it and turn it over. I just folded the extra fabric and sewed a second line.

Add the spikes and you're done! Yay for cool new camera strap! :-)
