Jurlique Nutri- Define with Biosome5: Facial Serum and Day Cream Reviewed

It was Maria who suggested that I try the new Nutri-Define range by Jurlique when we were having dinner together. I had seen the press release a month or so earlier but I was trialling so many other things that I didn’t really have a proper read of the details. You HAVE to try Nutri-Define, it is UNBELIEVABLE – she said. So I did.

I was really curious after reading the press information about their use of liposomes in this line. Liposomes are well known as a drug-delivery system. As a tiny bubble- like structure with a lipid outer layer encapsulating your chosen substance, it traverses the top layers of the skin more effectively than the substance on it’s own. Liposomes are becoming more common in cosmeceuticals for delivery of skin care actives, and now Jurlique has entered the game with their new luxury Nutri-Define line- which uses liposome technology to encapsulate their 5 anti-aging extracts- rosemary, horseradish, mulberry, peppermint, and glycogen.

The Nutri- Define Superior Retexturising Facial Serum (30mL/ $145) uses the Jurlique Biosome5 system to deliver the Nutri- Define “proprietary age-fighting” key extracts- rosemary, horseradish, mulberry, peppermint, and glycogen past the superficial skin layers. It also features anti-aging gingseng root extract and licorice root extract for skin brightening. It has a light serum texture, and works best used straight after cleansing and underneath a good quality light to medium weight moisturiser. My skin looks/ feels great after using this- silkier, more refined, firmer. If you’re using a moisturiser on top, it helps your skin absorb the product.

The Nutri-Define Multi- Correcting Day Cream ($120) also uses the 5 “proprietary age-fighting extracts” encapsulated in liposomes. It is a rich in oils (rapeseed and squalane) to provide a protective barrier and keep moisture in. This has a rich, velvety texture which is amazing for dry skin and cooler weather. This is up there with one of the most intensely hydrating moisturisers I’ve used, together with The Jojoba Company Intense Overnight Renewal Cream. It has the effect of making my skin feel/look noticably plumper and more glowy, as well as giving it a soft focus effect you might expect from a primer-there have been days when I can’t tell whether I put on foundation or not because my skin looks so good. In warmer weather I would suggest resisting the temptation to slather it on and use the tiniest amount- it can feel a bit too heavy over the day otherwise.

Personally I prefer using the Nutri-Define products separately rather than layered together- I find that on my skin it tends to get a bit sticky and heavy with both together most likely because the Multi-correecting Day Cream is so rich.
