[diy] easy burlap & lace placemats

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, Emily and I had a sleepover at my friends house. Often when I hang out with my friend Misty, we like to pick a project from our millions of Pinterest boards and have lots a glass of wine and try our best to make our version look as good as the pin. We're right at about 50% on our success rate. Whether or not our projects turn out, at least we had some wine and some laughs in the process.

For her latest DIY project, Misty wanted to make a version of this pin for her kitchen table. She couldn't find any flowers she liked, so she ended up getting some lace that had flowers in the design. Now this tutorial is super easy and takes no time at all. Here's what you'll need:

12" wide roll of natural burlap 6 foot roll of lace (x 2) hot glue gun scissors

This tutorial will make four mats. Adjust your supplies according to how many mats you need to make.

Instructions
1. Cut the burlap into 18" sections.

2. Cut the ribbon into 14" sections.

3. Hot glue a strip of ribbon to the two shortest sides of each piece of burlap. You will have extra lace hanging off the top and bottom of the mat. Flip the burlap over and hot glue the excess ribbon to the back. This will help keep it secured to the burlap.

**If you want to take an extra step, I was also thinking you could add strips of pearls to the edge of the lace to make extra fancy placemats.**
4. Let the glue cool off.

5. Place them on your table and make ask your husband nicely to cook dinner so that you can enjoy your pretty new placemats.

I know, I know. It blows your mind how quick and easy this is. You know me, I don't have six hours to sit still and do some complicated craft that I'll probably mess up anyway.
