Take A Bow

Fashion month is naturally the busiest time for fashion media — more so online, where the race to document shows as they happen is shrinking deadlines to the point that one can imagine someone at Style.com telling a photographer they need photos up for Dior before the show even takes place. But there are no such deadlines on this blog; and given that the industry is currently preoccupied with womenswear collections, which are seldom covered on this blog, I’m digesting fashion month from a different perspective: the designers’ — more specifically by what they wore to their own shows.

Of the designers above, Simon Porte Jacquemus is the most deserving of individual recognition. Following the showing of his eponymous label’s spring 2015 collection, Jacquemus ran out dressed entirely in white, save for a black Comme des Garçons PLAY heart on his shirt, and yellow rings on his socks. By description, it’s an ensemble hardly deserving of particularly attention, but — excuse my informality — it just looks so damn cool.

Meanwhile, J.W. Anderson and Anthony Vaccarello opted for a very normcore* combination of dark jumper, blue jeans, and sneakers. The look was neither flamboyant nor overly serious, as is fitting for two established designers with exponentially-growing labels of their own as well as collections at other houses. (NB: Anderson is currently positioned at Loewe, and Vaccarello just showed a one-off collection for Versace’s Versus line.)

Wes Gordon and Tom Ford both took the #menswear route, with the latter also donning double denim by way of the seventies.

The youngest of the designers — the Public School boys, Dion Lee, and Jack and Lazaro of Proenza Schouler — were the most similarly dressed, resembling those painfully chic** Japanese tourists I always see and subsequently want to be, with their oversized shirts, dark denim and sneakers.

Meanwhile, I’m wearing shorts and trying not to spontaneously combust in the heat of my bedroom. It also just occurred to me that I’ve written an entire fashion week round-up without actually discussing the clothes being shown at fashion week. That’s something, right?

* My apologies for using the N word, but it was the best I could come up with.

** Ditto for the C word. Again, it was the best I could think of.

L-R from top: Simon Porte Jacquemus, J.W. Anderson, Jonathan Saunders, Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow (Public School), Dion Lee, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough (Proenza Schouler), Wes Gordon, Anthony Vaccarello (Versus Versace), Tom Ford.
