Petite Retreat Recap & Reflections

When I was first approached to show my products at the Petite Retreat, I must say I was a bit hesitant. Very fortunate that Ilissa, owner of Binx, believed in my work…but still…hesitant. I know how much work goes into prepping for a trade show since I have a bit of experience designing them for others. Never could I imaging that my ten years as a designer/creative director would benefit my own business and product development. The last few years have been absolutely hectic as I transitioned from a very driven career gal to very happy mother…juggling two kids, a blossoming business and so much more. When people ask me where I find the time, I don’t really know how to respond. I guess the only way I can describe this creative drive is, wherever my mind leads, I follow. I have a tendency to become pretty manic with creative ideas and notice that I’m a bit addicted to the adrenaline rush that follows. What I loved about participating in this show is how it uncovered my strengths and weaknesses as a product developer. Selling my time as an art director is MUCH different than selling product. Like night and day. It’s such a challenge to calculate all the different aspects of product development, such as overhead, production, advertising, research…the list is endless. You learn from so many mistakes and grow over time. I was shocked to find that we were about to reach 100 sales a few months ago on Etsy. It was at that moment that I realized I had to focus 100% on one of my products. This is SUCH a challenge of mine…focus. I want to do it all. Problem is, your message can get fuzzy and watered down. This past week I had a chance to reflect on all the wonderful comments I received at the Petite Retreat and decided to focus on lighting design. I have so many ideas of how to expand on this line, but of course, I am back to the development phase. I will keep you all posted as this lines expands. So excited about the future of Obsessivision! Thank you all for taking the time to follow Many, many, many thanks to the ever inspiring Ilissa & Amber (owner of the Bundle Store) for the continued support!
