Sew Bossy: Hawthorn

I’ve been bossed! I recently reached out to Ingrid of We The Sewing to see if she’d like to pair up and I was thrilled when she said yes (you can check out what I sent her here). It’s so fun to have a sewing buddy on the other side of the world. I love Ingrid’s style and am always impressed with her fabric manipulation (embroidery, dying, and the like). I was hoping she’d push me in that direction, and I was so excited to get her package in the mail.

Along with the Colette Hawthorn pattern, she sent me this beautiful very light grey printed cotton and lavender dye. I decided to try stitch resist shibori and stitched lines across my fabric roughly 4 inches apart following this tutorial. And into the dye bath it went.

I LOVE the color it became, but sadly you can barely see the stripes. Oh well. I’d rather have subtle stripes and a color I love than bright stripes and an icky color! You can see the stripes best on the back of the skirt. I’m definitely excited to try more hand dying now!

Oh, right, the dress!

Dress Details:

Pattern: Hawthorn by Colette Patterns, version 3

Size: 2 at bust graded to an 8 at the waist

Alterations/Changes: Besides grading from a 2 to an 8, I also did a small bust adjustment and shortened the bodice by 1/2″. I added pockets to the side seam as well. And opted to leave off all the top stitching.
