God Made Them Cute For A Reason

I have always heard people refer to pregnancy & child-birth as beautiful things. I am not sure what these people were drinking, but I did not find either of these to be a thing of beauty. What is so beautiful about puking, heartburn & hemorrhoids? I could not find this so call beauty when my water broke all over our kitchen floor. It was not present when I had my lady parts on display for every doctor & nurse that walked into the delivery room over the course of my 24 hour labor. It certainly did not follow us into the operating room when I had an emergency C-section void of pain killers. This so-called beauty was absent during all of these things. Lying in my hospital bed I vowed that I would never go through this again.

As they handed me my new baby girl, I finally found the beauty. As I looked down at her perfect face, suddenly I developed amnesia and it was as if the past 9 months had never even happened.

Our daughter was a difficult infant. She was colicky & she was an insomniac much like her mother. She cried for 6 months straight. I joined in & we became a duet. We cried side by side for the better part of her first year in this world. Yet, as soon as my doctor gave me the green light to try for another child, I started trying to persuade my husband to try for baby number 2. My husband thought I was insane. “Don’t you remember what you just went through? We are just finally getting to sleep through the night.” Somehow, when I looked back it did not seem so bad.

It is funny how easily you seem to forget.

It has been a bumpy ride over these past few years. We have experienced all of the highs & lows that come with parenting. We have navigated over dangerous roads & many times have come to close to the edge. There are some days that are filled with back to back melt downs & back talk. There are sleeplessness nights and tired mornings and just when it seems as if our patience has run out, with just one smile, one hug or one “I love you.” everything is perfect again. God made you this cute for a reason.
