Unbroken

I googled “1920s fashion” and the first photos that came up were from the movie, The Great Gatsby, starring Leo Dicaprio and Carey Mulligan. 1920s was the theme going for a ball I attended last week, the Upsilon Sigma Phi Batch 2013 Induction Ball, held at the Glass Garden in Marikina.

I didn’t have time to go shopping for a dress, so I tried looking into everyone’s closet at home. Sadly, no luck there. So what does a girl with limited time, and limited resources do? Call a friend! I contacted April of Abrille clothing and asked if she had anything that would pass as anything Great Gatsby, and she showed me this dress. It didn’t truly shout 1920s like those flapper dresses, but with my lack of options, I went with it. After all, when I went on Google, there were a lot of long lace dresses, especially in creams and beiges. So, yay, problem solved!

Thank you April, for coming through for me, even if I asked you at the last minute. Sorry for the hassle love. :)

Now my next problem, What about my hair and makeup? Good thing I saw this deal on Ensogo for half off service at Blo bar, in SM Megamall. I initially wanted Hollywould, but the hair cadet advised me to get the Pillow Talk instead as it would last longer into the night. He did ask me what time the party was, and how long I would stay there, so, great call!

I love my hair, don’t you? My curls still looked great at midnight, so I was pretty happy with my hair, even when I used a coupon for that. And oh, they move fast too. Now, I am a firm believer of “Wash, Blo, Go”. I actually brought along an embellished headband to keep the look more 1920s, but I was so in love with my hair that I realized that putting on the headband would just ruin it.

For my makeup, I stuck to my usual nude look, to keep everything understated and elegant.

Also, I had to cinch my waist, because the material sort of stretches and makes my waist look nonexistent. I am actually proud of being curvy, so I really like to accentuate that. I think everyone should flaunt their assets, woohoo!

At the party, I was told that there was a dinner buffet, with my dress, you wouldn;t want an unflattering belly bulge to show, right? So I wore this Spanx like undergarment I got from Triumph, and it did the trick! No ugly bulges for me, even after consuming creme brulee and bread pudding!

Lastly, even with the material being stretchy, I was very worried with movement. One of my questions to April was, is it hard to walk in? She said yes, so I requested her to put a slit at the back to make it more comfortable for me. Great idea, right?

Overall, I had fun at the ball. I got to witness a traditional fraternity induction ceremony, complete with the codes and everything. Got to meet a lot of new friends too, like my seatmate, Diane, who was stuck with me every time our dates would go off for some mandatory fraternity business.
