Fruit Crate Unit

The Baines & Fricker Fruit Crate Unit uses contemporary pops of colour and cool graphics to make a functional piece more fitting for the home. The low, slender Fruit Crate unit doesn’t take up a great deal of space and offers a lot of valuable storage space in the deep fruit crate drawers.

The drawers are also easily removed and transportable due to the slot crate handles. Each drawer is screen printed with the Baines & Fricker name in punchy lettering and the linoleum top is available in a range of colour choices. Fruit Crate Unit it’s a fresh and fun take on traditional home storage.

Husband and wife design duo Baines & Fricker launched their company in 2011. Based in the vibrant seaside town of Brighton UK, Baines & Fricker specialise in robust, utilitarian style furniture, designed to enhance the home environment. The company has already enjoyed much success; their Harris Tweed Rocker was a Blueprint finalist for ‘Best New Product’ and they have recently produced a special edition version for Liberty London.

Steve Baines is an experienced furniture maker whilst Eliza Fricker has previously worked as an illustrator and screen printer. The collaboration between the two designers draws upon their individual skills and years of experience. Their beautifully crafted furniture is often partnered with bold colour accents and graphics. Having gradually made and acquired pieces for their own home, the collaboration came about through a shared passion for long-lasting design.

Baines & Fricker believe that every item within the home should be worth keeping and this ethos informs every decision they make throughout the design process taking pride in using British materials wherever possible. Influences range from Utility furniture to craft, industrial architecture to street signs. They are also fascinated by the mundane. Fruit crates, cement works, rooftops and desk graffiti all appear in their designs. Features usually believed to be unremarkable or ugly are elevated to the status of art, worthy of admiration.
