Life lately

The hustle and bustle of life has once again taken over, so much so that days and even a week goes by before I get round to blogging. I have to confess to having lost a bit of motivation recently, no doubt because so many other things are pinging around in my mind. So today I thought I'd do a little round-up of some of the things that have been taking up all my head space lately.

01. Poorly cat

Poor little Splodge (on the right) has kept me working from home and on annual leave rather a lot recently, and is currently lying next to me with a shaven belly, leg and neck completely zonked out on opiates. The poor little love had a urinary tract infection and a nasty jagged little bladder stone that was rattling around in her bladder causing all kinds of havoc. We've currently racked up a £1600 vet bill so far. Thank God for pet insurance!

02. Freelance and penny pinching

With the prospect of a few weeks of unemployment ahead of me, I've been totting up a bit of freelance work to try and cover the impending deficit. One of my favourite projects was sub-editing the newly relaunched Recorder magazine from Monotype (the font foundry who created the likes of Times New Roman, Helvetica and Gill Sans). It includes an interview with a letterpress artist, features on ghost signs and is generally an exquisite looking magazine.

As well as freelancing and trying to be as thrifty as possible, I've also been playing a few online bingo games in order to tot up a few winnings that I can spend on the new house. I wouldn't say I'm the most prolific of players but have been known to dabble when I have a spare moment, particularly as recent evenings have been spent looking after a poorly cat. If you’re new to this kind of thing, it’s definitely worth taking a peek at some of the online promotions these sites offer for new players so you can get more bang for your buck. For example, if you play the Winner Bingo online bingo games they offer you £30 when you deposit £5 and 888Ladies gives you £25 when you deposit £10. It’s worth hunting around rather than staying with one particular site.

03. France

I spent a fleeting three days in France for my mum's birthday, where I caught up on long sleeps in my pitch black room, woke to birdsong, ate lots of delicious grub and hung out with mum and the animals.

04. Family reunions

A couple of Saturdays ago I saw my dad for the first time in about 10 years. We'd become estranged for a variety of reasons, but it felt so good to finally see him again. So much has changed, and my poor dad is now quite poorly, which is something we're all coming to terms with. I don't want to share too much on here for now, other to say that I'm so happy he's back in my life. It's been an emotional roller coaster to say the least.

05. Birthday boy

Frankie had his 35th birthday, which kept me busy blowing up balloons and generally making a fuss of him.

06. LUSH goodies

No autumn would be complete without a festive splurge in LUSH, and I spent ages cooing over bath bombs, soaps and my all time favourite - bubble bars. The lovely lady serving treated me to this pumpkin bubble bar on the house, which made for a deliciously autumnal bath that very evening. Now I just have to hope there's some left once Frank's got his mitts on it.
