Curaçao: Beach Time

It’s time for a “vintage” travel post! These photos were taken during the summer of 2009, when we went on a family trip to the island of Curaçao. Honestly, we explored many historic, cultural, and natural sites and didn’t visit the beach all that much. Still, we did get to see two beautiful beaches and, luckily, I still have some photos to post.

All of these photos were either taken at Grote Knip (Playa Kenepa Grandi) or Playa Jeremi. Grote Knip is quite a popular beach, especially during weekends. People often choose to go snorkelling at Grote Knip because of the nearby coral reefs. Playa Jeremi doesn’t have many facilities and is a lot smaller and quieter. Both beaches are freely accessible to the public and have their own charm!

We also dropped by another beach that would probably be considered a lot more “touristy”. Visitors also had to pay a fee to enter the area. There are many beaches like that around the island. In fact, it has become common for beaches to become privatized and owned by businesses. Although it may be a good thing how some businesses now employ cleaners and waiters, therefore helping to battle unemployment issues, it just didn’t feel right to us. It would have felt more like a day at a spa than a day at the beach, if that makes any sense…
