tuesday thoughts [a fashion funk]

(oh, hi. i cut my hair. it only does straight or straight now. awesome.)
i've been really bad at blogging lately. i'm sure you've noticed. what with the complete lack of posting for a week at a time. the thing is, i haven't been really very inspired with my outfits lately and the thought of taking pictures of what i threw on last minute before running out of the house to get the baby to daycare and still make it to work at a semi-reasonable hour isn't really how i imagined sharing my style with you.

why the fashion funk?

well for starters, really none of my work pants fit. and a lot of my dress hems have somehow jumped a couple of inches (showing a little too much leg than i care to). there. i said it. all-in-all, i'm about 10lbs away from my pre-pregnancy weight and it's all in my stomach, an area i was proud to showcase "in the time before baby" and i don't quite know how to dress this new mama body of mine.

my immediate solution is to buy all new clothes! but, being that that's incredibly unrealistic (but oh, one can wish) and i have perfectly good clothes (and lots of them) that still fit, i just need to take the time to go through everything. which brings me to my next point.

i don't have time to go through all my clothes. i see lily roughly 2.5-3 hours a day during the work week. it kills me to type that but that's the rough reality of us working moms. i get home at 5:30 and she goes to bed at 7:30. and the brief half hour to hour in the morning before work doesn't add much to my lily time. i've even started looking forward to her 3am wailing wake-ups just so i can cuddle her while she eats. so after work and on the weekends, i'm maximizing my time with my daughter, not going through my clothes.

but there are brief glimpses of the productivity that i'm capable of, like that saturday morning a couple weekends back when lily took a 3 hour nap and i organized all of my day-to-day jewelry and underwear/bra (none of them a-cups fit anymore, remember?) drawers and let me tell you what a task that was.

so with the knowledge that i can, in fact, get my act together without decreasing the amount of time i spend with my daughter, i'm putting it out there on the interwebs that i resolve to:
  1. exercise regularly so i can lose the pooch and fit into my pants. lily loves the stroller now so we've already started walking a lot more
  2. organize my clothes, put away stuff that really doesn't fit and donate items i haven't worn in a year (and probably won't wear again)
  3. outfit plan! i actually like to go with the flow when i get dressed in the morning and put on whatever i feel like wearing, but with my new morning routine, ain't nobody got time for that
i welcome any tips from the seasoned mamas out there. oh and, wish me luck!
