4 Healthy Holiday Tips with Skinnygirl

This is a sponsored post with Skinnygirl. All opinions are my own.

Are you feeling the Holidays yet?

Christmas is already next week but for some reason it doesn’t really feel like it to me. Maybe it’s because the weather has been quite gentle with us in Chicago lately. Or maybe I’ve been just too busy to realize we’re already halfway through December. Who knows!

If you don’t agree and you’ve been totally loving the Holiday spirit lately and basking in all of its holiday snacking glory, I don’t want to scare you by saying that an average person gains 3-5 lbs every Holiday season. BUT that’s not to say you should stop indulging. Holidays only come once a year and I, for one, think it’s totally worth it

However, there are still things you can do that don’t hurt your fun in the holiday season while remaining friendly with your foods, goodies, and your waistline. The fabulous friends over at Skinnygirl shared some tips with me that I wanted to pass on over to you!

  • Be a Scrooge Not a Grinch: Taste Everything! When faced with a holiday buffet, dinner or party, it is OK to take a little taste of the dishes that tempt you most, versus a whole feast! The Skinnygirl rule is “taste everything, eat nothing,” where you fill a small plate with a few bites of the most indulgent dishes, and this way, don’t feel deprived that you missed out on something.

  • Stick to Your Budget: Just as you have a budget in mind when you go holiday shopping, the same can be said for eating around the holidays. Treat your diet like a bank account. If you invest in something decadent, balance that with something healthy. You can invest in a cookie, a piece of cake or holiday candy (just not all at once!), and then ‘deposit’ into your diet some healthier fruit, vegetables, whole grains and lean protein options.

  • Good Things Come in Small Packages: Just like the little blue box that may hold something sparkly, think “small” when it comes to holiday eating: Order the small size, use small plates, take smaller portions. If you are dining out, order an appetizer portion or only eat half of what is on the plate, and ask for the rest to take home.

  • Make a (Snack) List and Check it Twice: Don’t let decking the halls turn into wrecking your diet. If you find yourself suddenly starving while out holiday shopping, bypass the food court and make sure you have on hand healthy snacks, such as nuts, fresh fruit, or a Skinnygirl Tasty Nutrition Bar. Having a healthy snack before you attend a holiday party also helps fill you up, reducing the risk of overindulging on less nutritious options. And just in time for the holiday season, Target stores are offering a special holiday bonus pack on Skinnygirl Tasty Nutrition Bars – seven bars for the price of five ($5.99). Available in Dark Chocolate Multigrain Pretzel, Chocolate Peanut Butter with Sea Salt or Banana Oatmeal Dark Chocolate, so you can enjoy the decadent flavors that you love while taming your hunger at the same time with protein (6 – 7 grams per bar) and fiber (5 grams per bar), all for under 170 calories.

Skinnygirl Tasty Nutrition Bars are available nationwide at retailers including Target stores, as well as online. For additional information visit www.SkinnygirlDaily.com or www.Facebook.com/SkinnygirlDaily.
