DIY Vegan Leather Leggings

Hey there! How are your weekends going? Are you getting in lots of sewing? The sewalong has kept me super busy this week, taking and editing photos and writing up (hopefully) insightful tips for sewing a Lou Box Top. But today I have a new DIY to share with you. I actually made these leggings about a month ago and I've been holding on to them waiting for the right time to share. Guys, these are vegan leather leggings. They are more what I would like my everyday style to be than what my everyday style actually is. From the photo above they look super boring but click through to see more of these, dare I say, super sexy leggings.

I bought this amazing vegan leather is from Girl Charlee at the beginning of the year. I knew I wanted to make leggings but the cheapo idiot that I am, I only bought 1 yard of fabric. I had it in my head that it would be super easy to just piece the hem for a cool angled look and I'd save on fabric. That was much easier in theory than in practice.

After one long, late night of stitching, I did manage to get them together in the end and have a wearable garment but I would so embarrassed to show you the quality of the stitching. It's really bad. I didn't even finish the hem at the ankle. If I were to do it again, I would not do any piecing at all. For the pattern, I used one that I drafted a year or two ago using this tutorial from Randomly Happy. Leggings are really fun and easy to make when you use normal fabric and don't try to make it complicated.

These are the kind of leggings that one only wears in some crazy action movie right? I have not worn them yet and I fear that I just can't think of the right occasion. Do you have any suggestions? Here, I've paired them with a super soft knit Lou Box Top (this is probably my all time favorite version of the top) and some of my favorite black booties. I might just have to join a punk band.
