Inspiration + thoughts behind the Downtown Tunic and a Weekend SALE!

The Downtown Tunic has been a really fun pattern for me to design because it has so many elements that are evident in ready to wear clothes that I love AND it is simply constructed and easy to make in an afternoon. I like to design clothes that are easy to wear, easy to sew, and can look nice on many body styles, so I (and so many of you who have emailed me/left IG comments/facebook comments etc.!) feel like we hit a home run on this one!

I began designing women’s sewing patterns when I was frustrated with the selection at my local quilt shop. I worked for two and a half years at a LQS and learned soooo much about the industry, how it is growing, what is was like in the past, and the direction it is headed in the future. I knew I wanted to design patterns that would fit into the genre of these types of creative shops, which is why you’ll see easy to source fabrics such as knit quilting cotton used throughout my patterns. In my search for these types of patterns that were also stylish, I came up always wanting more. I decided I was going to be part of that “more”, and here we are today.

INSPIRATION

I started gathering inspiration for the DTT a few months ago (I took some time off between our last pattern release in July, I think? for other projects and to rest my brain) and knew the type of style I wanted: a flowy tunic, that would be easy to wear with jeans or leggings and that would layer well. I was inspired by tops like these…

…from Anthropologie (left) and Nordstrom/Splendid (right). I love mixing patterns, especially for spring, so I knew this would need to be an option! I had a lot of fun designing this one and I’m so glad it’s ready to be enjoyed by YOU!
