Ruby Rockets – Frozen Veggie and Fruit Pops

As a parent I know how difficult it can be to get your child to healthy. They are bombarded by images of chips, candy and cookies in commercials shown in between their favorite shows. They also attend school with children who bring in unbalanced lunches and snacks. When they see other kids eating cookies and chips your child is going to want to indulge in them too.

There is nothing wrong with eating “junk food,” per say. As long as you eat things in moderation and compensate for it with a healthier diet and exercise.

I’ve always told my kids that they can have a cookie or two – but not five cookies. They eat well balanced meals every day and they don’t go overboard with sweets or junk. I am grateful that my kids will grab for a package of baby carrots before opening the pantry looking for snack size bags of chips.

Whenever possible I have always tried to introduce “better for you” snack options for not only my kids, but also for my husband and myself.

One snack treat that my kids, as well as me and my husband, enjoy are ice pops. They are sweet, enjoyable and usually low in calories and sugar. We enjoy ice pops year round, not just during the summer months.

Have you ever heard of Ruby Rockets? They are a link of frozen veggie and fruit pops. Yes, you read that right – veggie and fruit pops.

In case you are not familiar with them here is some additional information.

  • They have the lowest naturally occurring sugar (4g) of any pop.
  • First and Only (non-dairy) pop with probiotics
  • Made with non-GMB, 70% organic ingredients
  • Gluten–free, Dairy-free, Vegan
  • No added sugars, sweeteners, stabilizers, artificial colors or flavors
  • Low in calories, less than 35
  • Kosher
  • Available in 3 Flavors: Rock It Red, Orbit Orange and Galaxy Green

Ruby Rockets sent my family all three flavors to try out (Rock It Red, Orbit Orange and Galaxy Green). In addition they have other flavors including Gravity Grape, Celestial Cherry, Meteorite Mango, Far Out Fudge and Planetary Pink Lemonade.

Rock It Red – Made out of strawberry, lemon, carrot, sweet potato and beet. My family enjoyed this flavor. It has a berry taste to it. I tasted more of the strawberry. I didn’t really taste the vegetables.

Orbit Orange – Made from organic oranges, sweet potatoes, carrots, lemons and strawberries. My family also enjoyed this flavor. I tasted more of the orange than the other flavors.

Galaxy Green – Made out of organic kiwifruit, avocado, green apple, banana and spinach. Sadly this was the least favorite flavor. No one in my family (including myself) really liked this one. My family does enjoy all the other flavors, including spinach. For some reason we just didn’t like this blend. It has a very “green” taste to it. It reminds me of those green, grassy tasting smoothies that are so popular these days. I wanted to like this flavor, but I just couldn’t. I think the avocado flavor threw me off. I’m not a fan of avocados.

With the exception of Galaxy Green, the other flavors were quite enjoyable. My kids enjoyed them just as they would any other ice pop.

I haven’t been able to find Ruby Rockets local to me. When I do I would reach for these before grabbing an ice pop made out of water, sugar and artificial flavors and colors. Ruby Rockets are the “better for you” option. Plus they are low in calories which make them a much better treat than cookies or a bag of chips.

At just 25 – 40 calories each pop, these are a great snack option for those who are watching their weight and counting calories. You can have the sweet flavors you crave without racking up the calories.
