MAX Factor

The curse of constantly working six months ahead in this industry – regardless of whether you’re in print, digital, back-end, strategy – combined with living in the ‘wrong’ season means that as far as my inbox and 2015 planner are concerned, Christmas has already been and gone. The past five years has seen such increased consumer access to what had previously been a secretive process of creating ready-to-wear and couture magic, that by the time product is actually tempting foot traffic, we’ve not only been completely overexposed to the product, but we’ve also fallen out of love with the season altogether. For Australians and Swedes, that means escaping to the other end of the Earth in search of an Eternal Summer or in this case, one more (just one more) month of burying your Blob in the collar of a good car coat. Further to that, my legs are not mentally prepared for the essential beach time frying my horizons. In my mind, I’m just about back to work in the Northern Hemisphere, iced over and rugged up en route to Fall/Winter 2015 shows.

Meanwhile, exams are looming and Christmas isn’t getting any closer.

It’s all in the big picture.

Today, after a glorious few days of a promising Summer, all spray and bikini tans fostered and flaunted in near nudity over the long weekend have now retracted into the comfort of hemlines that don’t require a leg wax (or gel? Or sugar peel goop? What’s even trending right now?). Wool velour overcoats, though? Not quite. But, I’m done with Summer and it hasn’t even happened yet.

Perhaps turning up to meetings drenched in sexy subway sweat in New York has some blame to take.

So, for the time being, I seek solace in this hug of a pink fluffy, without the fluff that comes with fluffy. Pink? You heard correctly. Clearly, that short suit I busted out a couple of weeks ago (a little prematurely for Spring) has blossomed in my subconscious. Pink in black and white? You got it. I think you should give credit to the killer cut and shape of the garment before its baby pinks. This is as close to Dior Haute Couture as we’re going to get for the time being. Bask in its fraction of a price tag, and nonchalant tonal shrug in the right direction of Spring having sprung.
