MID-WEEK MUSIC MOMENT: RIHANNA, KANYE & PAUL MCCARTNEY

{ I think I've had enough, I might get a little drunk I say what's on my mind, I might do a little time because all of my kindness is taken for weakness }
Behold, the video for the musical collaboration of Rihanna, Kanye West and Sir Paul McCartney. I chose this for today's MWMM not because I love this song, but because it's such an interesting pop culture moment. Rihanna is rolling her eyes and crying, Kanye is shaking and making claw hands—and Sir Paul is just as cool as ice, strumming his acoustic guitar.
How do we feel about this? I sort of feel like I spent the whole song waiting for something to happen, for the sound to build and climax... But I think that's a product of having my ear trained to expect a formula with current music, yes? (
When will the bass drop?) So maybe it's okay that you feel a little stressed? I think RiRi and Kanye want me to feel. However, what I'm mostly feeling is meh.
I don't want to overthink this, but I feel like it's sort of an odd power play when Kanye and Rihanna get together, then get Sir Paul himself on board, and then he just strums the same chords over and over again in the background. We don't hear a peep from that magical man. That makes me feel weird. Kind of a waste, no?
On a positive note, I feel like this is a really cool video, and I love that it's shot in black and white and in a square and everyone's wearing some kind of denim. #synergy.
Okay, your turn. Do you like this song? Do you feel weird about Sir Paul? Is Kanye dad dancing? Tell me your feelings.
