Sweet and Petite Master Suite {A Work In Progress}

I still have a few details and one BIG project in our master bedroom that I need to complete, but it is pretty close to the finish line. If I had waited until I felt like it was completely done, you'd never get to see it! Rooms in this home change faster than Katy Perry's hair color. This is how our bedroom looked back in 2006.

In 2008, I went though a I-must-paint-all-my-walls-chocolate-brown phase. This was Cup Of Cocoa from Behr and it looked delicious for about 3 years.

Still on the to-do list:
1. Change the headboard. I'd love to find an old door to make a headboard, but I'm not having any luck on Craigslist or at the Habitat For Humanity store. I may just recover it to a wheat colored linen that would go better with the shades and rug. 2. Since I like the wainscoting that I put up in our living room, kitchen and hall bath, I'm planning on putting up board and batten on the wall behind our bed. It would lighten the room up even more and add character. 3. I still need to put the matching pulls on the nightstand on the left. I had to strip and spray paint some vintage pulls that I found on Ebay.
What's been done so far:
We added new windows throughout the house and had the installers enlarge the window that you see on the left. From this window, you can see our garden, our fire pit, and our eleven year old Japanese Maple that is a beautiful shade of red right now. Beyond that, our property backs up to a 7,000 acre state park. Although it's not our land, we get to enjoy the benefits of the privacy and the view.

My favorite change has been repainting the room a light grayish-blue, Gray Cashmere from Benjamin Moore (BM 2138-60). It's a close second to changing our bedroom set paint color from black to white. This set is from the 1950's and the veneer on the tops of the nightstands was damaged beyond repair, so I added trim and mirrors to cover it up. I also added caster wheels to make the nightstands 2 inches higher so they are more proportionate to the height of the bed.

The only place that we can put the bed is in front of the window. It is what it is. To make the window behind the bed appear to be the same size as the other window, I hung the curtains close to the ceiling and beyond each side of the bed. Since I work night shift and sleep during the day, the curtains are light blocking and insulated to keep out the heat, sun and some of the noise.

On the other side of the room, is the dresser. It was also once painted black. The mirror frame was a freebie that I found in my Dad's old barn.

Although it took 3 days to paint all the furniture, I'm glad that I did it and got it over with!

As with all my other projects in our home, a little bit gets done at a time. The plan is to tackle the wainscoting project later this fall.
If you would like to know the link to where I purchased anything, please feel free to ask me in the comments or an email.
Later this week, I'll have another painting project and a fall display to show you, so I hope you stop back by!
