DIY good vibes sharpie mug

Coffee is a constant in my life. I can't remember a time when I didn't love coffee, or at least a time when I wasn't interested in it. Until I was "allowed" to start drinking coffee at 12 or 13 or so, I loved the smell of my dad's coffee brewing in the kitchen. I'd inhale the rich grinds and watch as he added just one splash of milk to his mug that was stained from use. Once when I was 7 or so years old, my brother and I walked home from school and were allowed to stop at the bakery to get an afterschool snack. I selected some soft, delicate cookies that tasted different from anything I'd ever had before. When I got home, my mom was shocked that I had selected coffee-flavored cookies. It was love at first bite.

Of course I went through my frappuccino phase and I always wind up getting a few peppermint lattes in the winter, but there's nothing quite like a cup of black coffee. I started drinking my coffee black when I was 15, and haven't really looked back, save for the occasional spoonful of organic sugar or splash of maple syrup. But this isn't a post about coffee. It's about a mug.

Often times I have grabbed a cup of coffee to get through a 12-page paper or a novel in a night, so this favorite drink of mine has come to be highly associated with stress. I am less Paris Geller than I was in high school, but I still need my cuppa to get me through trying times. I have found that cheerful mugs make java much more enjoyable, despite any stressful circumstances, so I decided to make one with my new motto: good vibes only.

Honestly, this DIY has been done countless times. The instructions are simple: clean your mug, draw on your design with a Sharpie, and bake at 350 degrees for half an hour. Handwash your mug to prevent the design from washing off.

Before baking, you can easily wipe off any mistakes that you may draw. If the design fades over time, simply re-draw and re-bake. Easy, right?

Go forth and be caffeinated.
