Easy DIY All-Natural Hand, Face, Body, and Lip Scrub + Link-Up

So, sometime around this time of year last year I made my own DIY lip scrub and I shared it with you guys here on the blog. I’ll be honest, it worked, but I feel like it dried out really fast. And in the end, I didn’t really like it all that much. I mean, it’s my fault… haha! I made it. No one else is to blame but me…

However, this time of year my lips and hands get absurdly chapped. I don’t know what it is, but my lips and hands hate the winter. It’s awful. And I feel like NOTHING works to get all the flaky skin (gross) off. And I’m allergic to something (I THINK it’s beeswax, but I’m not 100% certain) that’s in 99.99999% of conventional chapsticks and lip balms. So, they just make my lips even MORE chapped. It becomes a vicious cycle.

Since I started using essential oils, I was determined to make my own scrub again… but I wanted it to be AWESOME this time.

So I played around with a few things and came up with a recipe that I absolutely LOVE. And it works for everything! Well, everything you could use a scrub on… haha!

Here’s the recipe. I hope you give it a try!

Easy DIY All-Natural Hand, Face, Body, and Lip Scrub

INGREDIENTS:

  • 4 1/2 tablespoons of organic granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of Vitamin E oil (I got mine at Trader Joe’s for about $8)
  • 1 tablespoon of organic honey (I used the organic honey from Target)
  • 10-12 drops of Lavender essential oil (I use Young Living Essential Oils)
  • 10-12 drops of Melrose essential oil (I use Young Living Essential Oils)
  • Small glass container (I used a small mason jar. Just make sure it’s something that can be sealed tightly.)

Step One

Pour the 4 1/2 tablespoons of organic granulated sugar in your desired container for the scrub.

Step Two

Then pour 2 tablespoons of Vitamin E oil on top of the sugar.

Step Three

Add in 10-12 drops of Melrose Essential Oil.

Why Melrose? Melrose is a blend of four seriously awesome essential oils: Melaleuca (Melaleuca alternifolia), naouli (Melaleuca quinquenervia), rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis), and clove (Syzygium aromaticum). Together these oils are a powerful blend that helps to speed up tissue regeneration. Of it’s MANY uses, one of the main is that it helps to speed up healing of damaged tissue – so, basically, it’s great for dry and chapped skin.

It’s antibacterial, antifungal, anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antiviral, a disinfectant, and a topical analgesic! So basically, it’s awesome. That’s why it’s perfect for a body scrub!

Step Four

Add in 10-12 drops of Lavender Essential Oil.

Why Lavender? Therapeutic-grade lavender essential oil is basically the bees knees when it comes to all things skin and beauty. It helps to soothe and cleanse common cuts, scrapes, dry and cracked skin, burns, etc. Since it’s really the “all purpose” oil, it’s an obvious choice for the body scrub. Plus, it smells amazing.

Step Five

Then, add in about 1 tablespoon of organic honey.

Step Six

Mix! Take a small spoon and mix it all together… be careful that you don’t spill it out everywhere. This is where you start to “test.” If it’s too dry, add a little bit more honey OR vitamin E oil (I added more honey). If it’s too “wet,” add a little bit more sugar. It’s all about trial and error here in the last step and getting the consistency that you like best.

And VOILA! You’re done!

Now, this scrub can literally be used anywhere on the body – the lips, hands, arms, legs, and even your face. It is HIGHLY moisturizing and it is thick, so I wouldn’t use it on your face all the time. If you’re going to use it on your face, I would not do it more than once a week and I would do it at night before bed.

My FAVORITE place to use this scrub is my lips and my hands. It makes your hands feel seriously amazing. And it smells so good.

PRO TIP: If you use it on your lips, put the scrub on with your fingers and then rub your lips together and leave the scrub on for a minute or two… like a mask. Then wash it off with water. That helps to give the essential oils time to sink into the skin and promote healing.

This would also make a GREAT affordable DIY gift for friends and family. You could make a big batch and then divvy it up!

What about you? Will you give this a try? Do you struggle with winter skin issues like I do?
