Tie Dye – Typography, Easter Egg Decorating

Have you started to think about dyeing Easter eggs?? My kiddos LOVE dyeing eggs – it’s such a fun family activity. This year we tried a kit that we’ve never used before, Tie Dye, and IT. IS. AWESOME! Seriously, highly recommended.

I can’t get over how awesome these turned out – just like I had imagined in my mind!

It’s part of the new line of dye kits from PAAS – –

We actually used two kits because I just love the set of cups with the dye already in them – you just add water and/or vinegar and they’re ready to go. So we used that as our dye base and then the Tie Dye kit tools for the rest.

The Tie Dye kit comes with special tools, including this egg mold. You use a pencil to poke through designated holes:

There is a cloth provided in the kit. You get that wet, then wrap it around your egg:

And then, with the cloth around the egg, you place it into the mold and snap it shut:

With the provided dropper, you drop dye onto the egg through the mold using the holes that you poked earlier:

I really love love this kit because there is a ton of room for creativity. From the colors they use to where they drip their dropper, the kids can use endless combinations. Sometimes egg dyeing is over way too fast, so I love that this could really draw out the process and let them enjoy it for longer than just a few minutes. They couldn’t get enough!

After you’ve added all the colors you want, it’s time to unwrap it and reveal the masterpiece. This is the best part, because you never know quite what it’s going to look like until you unwrap it!

Each egg is unique and different and we loved finding our favorites and commenting on the fun differences in them.

All the kids had a great time! (well, you’ll notice 1 kiddo missing – he was sick on the couch, boo!). We mixed in some regular dipping too, so that while one was using the tie dye case, the others could dip eggs.

I just can’t get over how amazing the tie dye came out! I was a little skeptical that it would work, but it did! So bright and vivid and awesome:

After the kids dyed all the eggs, I added some typography and random fun words to the eggs. I just used a washable black marker and it worked really well. Sky’s the limit on the messages that you can write:
