Teaching Kids Yoga Poses – Yoga Life

Children today face challenges that their parents did not, and while every generation feels this way (and also that kids now have it easier is other ways) the fact of the matter is that it is true. While still in some areas, children have it easier than previous generations. The fact of the matter is that the challenges facing children change as life around us all changes. Children who grow up in a world where by the age of three they are fluent with touch screen electronic devices and familiar with interacting with the world in a completely new way. Of course, what are the consequences of children who grow up with their world immersed in touch screens and constant electronic and video stimuli to keep them occupied? For starters, their attention span may be altered, but they will also be accustomed to having a much smaller sphere of reality then one finds in, oh, say, a classroom. So, how do you keep children engaged in the classroom without putting them in front of electronic devices? Simple, you teach them to be present, by slowing down and turning off the entertainment devices for a little while.

One way to teach children to be present and to help bring them into a state where they are ready to learn is through yoga poses for kids. For kids, yoga poses function in several ways. They help to restore proper function of the central nervous system, while helping to promote digestion, also yoga can teach balance, improve strength and flexibility and otherwise generally support better physical health. Yoga poses for kids also help with mental and psychological development in that yoga is certainly known to help improve self-confidence, promote self-esteem, and can help children to get in touch with both their physical and mental selves. Also yoga is a wonderful way to teach relaxation and visualization tools.

In the classroom, there are a number of ways in which kids yoga poses can be used. Having a yoga video or a teacher-led yoga class on a regular basis is great and highly beneficial. Even more desirable are the effects yoga can have when it is used in smaller doses to help students learn by helping restless kids come to a place of calm focus or taking children who are nodding off and re-energize them so they can pay attention. Active, engaged minds learn better, they retain more information and they also make the classroom a more conducive learning environment for others. Teachers must be able to balance a classroom’s energies and create a common focus so that all students have the opportunity to learn. And using basic and simple yoga poses for kids, they can achieve this for all of their very individual students.

Yoga poses for kids for kids are also greatly appreciated by parents as well, and when parents and teachers work together in helping kids practice their yoga poses, they help to create a practice that can stick with a child for life, and one that will improve their health and well-being on all fronts.

Kids yoga poses in the classroom can help to wake up the students that are falling asleep, while at the same time calming down the ones that have too much energy to focus. Yoga Kids has yoga poses for kids to get started, because the benefits are not just in school, overall yoga can improve almost all areas of life, from physical well being to mental well being.
