Fashion: Aleks Susak

Welcome to the new bird! Aleks Susak launched her eponymous line Wednesday night in Toronto. Inspired by nature Serbian born Susak showed a collection of hand painted silk dresses, cropped leathers and distressed jeans. Now, full disclosure Aleks and I have known each other since high school. So I was in on this new endeavour from the beginning.

Watching her go from idea to conception was inspiring. Maybe it’s a secret to those not in the business, but starting your own line is like nothing short of bat shit crazy. There is so much involved and you have to love what you do because there are so many hurdles. I remember sitting on a sunny patio in August when she said, “I’m going to design and I want to show at Toronto fashion week.” And I was all , “Girl you crazy!” Following her progress has been an inspiration. Now, admittedly she showed past the buying season, not on the WMCFW schedule, but she packed the house at 99 Sudbury and (in my biased opinion) I’m sure we’ll be seeing more.
