Store Closing & Looking Ahead

I have some good and bad news to share with you ... bad news first: Friday, November 21st will be the last day you can shop Kitschy Digitals. This has been something that has been on my mind for a quite a while now... so long, that I'm actually not too terribly sad about it because I've had a lot of time to go through the "grieving" process of it all. Kitschy Digitals has been a labor of love for me on so many levels and even though it didn't grow into the kind of business I had hoped for, I still consider it a great success.

I grew tremendously as a person, as a designer... even as a leader, during the past 2 years KD has been open. Minus the development part of it (all that html stuff that goes over my head), I created this website and business from scratch, all on my own, designing the website and managing the products, designing marketing visuals, "project managing" with my designers and more. It was such a great learning experience! I feel that I found my confidence as a professional and designer through this entire process.

All that said, it does make me sad, but I am ready to move forward (in my heart, I already have... it's just taken me a while to follow through with all of the logistics of closing down the shop!) It has been such a fulfilling ride.... from the very beginning process of creating our logo and "Kitschy Girls" illustration (art-directed by me, designed by my talented friend Pilgrim Lee) to the curation of products in our shop... SO MANY talented and lovely human beings (aka designers) that I had the honor of working with. Some have come and gone, but so many of them supported me from the beginning to the end.

I feel that Kitschy Digitals provided a very specific shopping experience to a very niche group of customers. Our customers have been so wonderful and supportive and EXCITED about our products. I always loved that our shop provided a way to save people from browsing places like Etsy for HOURS trying to find the perfect embroidery pattern, etc. There's something to being "small" in that way, don't you think? Almost like shopping your small local boutique.

I carefully chose every product that went into our shop. I'm picky and I know what I like. I hope that showed in our selection over the past 2 years. If you have shopped at Kitschy Digitals over the years, THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for your support. Every time you (virtually) squealed in excitement about a new cross-stitch pattern that we posted on our Instagram, or every time that you shared your work-in-progress project using one of our products - it made our day. Seriously. Thank-you.

We have had some really amazing press, being featured several times in the always wonderful Mollie Makes Magazine (they have been a wonderful supporter of us!!), as well as on other high profile design blogs such as Design Mom, Disney Baby, Babble, Design for Minikind, Apartment Therapy (Ohdeedoh) and more.

I personally have all of my personal products on sale, 20% off, from now through store closing. You can use the code "danielle20" at checkout. Please tell anyone you think might want to do some shopping that we are closed for good after November 21st - so shop soon! If you or they have been looking for the perfect gift to make for their loved one for Christmas, we have so many great patterns and printables that will get you started. (Please note: only my personal products are on sale - the rest of the shop is not. I could not set up individual designer sales unfortunately - don't get me started on our "sale" mod for our site. It's poop! But luckily most of our products will run you on average around 6 bucks, if that!)

Here's a peek at some of my products on sale. See everything here. If you are savvy with Photoshop, there are some great holiday handmade gift ideas.. like these custom printable letter writing kits for kids (boys and girls separately as well) and these quick page sets that are perfect for photo book gifts (here and here).

I do plan on making my personal products available somewhere else online at some point and I'm actually excited to have more time to create new products of my own. I'm especially interested in designing templates for photographers... which takes me to my GOOD news!...

I'm finally launching my portrait photography business that I've been thinking (and dreaming) about for a while now. Life has been cookoo-for-cocoa-puffs-busy over the past few months, but I finally found some time to start building my website. It's still a work-in-progress and I will be adding a price list and more info soon. I'll also be working on my graphic design portfolio site soon (graphic design and photography often go hand-in-hand when it comes to marketing materials for other businesses, so I'm excited to hopefully do more of that in the future! I've started networking locally - I love working with small local businesses, but I am still very open to and excited about working with anyone across the world! My last job was with a business in England after all!) I also plan on providing a styling service to my families and other clients that I photograph. More details on that to come. I'm also going to be open to travel in the GA, NC, AL and FL areas! If you are interested in my services, you can email me at thousandclowns AT gmail DOT com for more details!

I wish I had been able to get my act together to do more holiday shoots this season, but the boys' schedules and school (did I mention 5th grade is hard?) have taken so much of my time. And they are my priority - always. I do have a couple family shoots in the next couple weeks that I'm so excited about. Next holiday season I will be ready!

Thank you again for all of your support of Kitschy Digitals over the years!
