BREAKING THROUGH…

We took our four barrel coffees to go and meandered around the little streets on the North side of the Mission, just below the 101; body shops, tacky 90’s condos, gas stations and workshops, interspersed with blink-and-you’ll-miss-them alleys like this one — lined with steadfast Victorians and brightened with colors from paint and plants. Brittany and I were just looking for a quiet spot away from the hustle and bustle of Valencia, and our explorations were rewarded in spades when we found this charming little street tucked between the new Burma Love and a swanky cocktail lounge

Brittany and I first met by stalking each other on instagram and finally broke through the 4th wall over coffee, cameras, and vintage Mercedes. I’m amazed how this is happening to me more and more — not only to meet street style bloggers, but fellow photo lovers, neighbors and sometimes the people one table over instagramming their meal at the same time as me. When friends told me in the early 2000’s I met him online, this was never, ever a good thing. But the instagram community, at least in SF, is something else altogether. Not only are there some amazing photographers out there providing daily inspiration, but so far people have been really warm and friendly. How about you? Have you had a bad experience on instagram yet? Met any insta-friends in the real world?

Thanks to Brittany for snapping these photos of me! If you’d like to check out the rest of the shots from this day be sure to head over to Brittany’s blog, Work it Berk.

If you’re in the bay area and would like to break the fourth wall with me and eat some delicious crab at the same time, I’m hosting a tasty event at the Feastly HQ next week with local chef and fishmonger Don Mayfield. This is going to be the first in a series of dinners featured around different neighborhoods in San Francisco — for this one we’ll be exploring the history and flavors of North Beach in every course. I’ll take you ingredient by ingredient through stories of the characters, legends and events that shaped this part of SF. Check out the full menu and buy tickets here. Come hungry — leave educated! And if you can’t make it to the North Beach dinner, we’re doing the Richmond next in April, so be sure to keep in touch with me over at instagram, pinterest, twitter, or facebook.

Hope to see you there! Thank you as always for reading
