Our DIY Save-the-Dates

Last month Grant and I packed up my camera, a blanket, and some thermoses and drove to a local park to take our own engagement photos. We needed at least one decent photo to use for our Save-the-Dates, which I decided to design myself. It was so cold that we didn't last more than 30 minutes outside. You would think I would be smart enough to bring warm gloves since a metal tripod in below freezing temperatures isn't too fun to handle. I do love how the photos turned out and it was nice to save a bit of money doing this ourselves.

{I put a border around the back of the card so it doesn't blend right into the background of the blog. I've also removed a bit of text.}

We spent all of $35 for 50 postcard style Save-the-Dates, $20 of which was express shipping. I downloaded Vistaprint's postcard template for Photoshop and then uploaded my design to their site. It was really simple and I love how they turned out. Since I'm a bit of control freak and love to DIY I will likely make our invitations as well.

Here's a few more photos from our DIY engagement shoot.

I used to question whether or not I could do certain things myself but through some trial and error I've taught myself a lot skills. Don't be afraid to try new things. Photoshop might seem intimidating but there are some great books out there and when all else fails, Google it. I'm not an expert in Photoshop but it doesn't scare me anymore. If you want to take your own photos, you just need a tripod and a camera remote. I had Grant stand in so that I could meter everything and then hopped in front of the camera with him. We had a bunch of "outtakes" but if you take enough photos you're bound to get some gems. I only recommend you wait for warmer weather ;)

I'll have a wedding update to share soon. I've pinned a lot of ideas for our reception decorations and I can't wait for the snow to melt so we can get outside and start on making some stuff!
