Six Pointed 3D Snowflake Tutorial

Easy 3D Snowflake Tutorial

I have fallen in love with making snowflakes to decorate my house. With two kids, 6 and 10, anything I can do to (1) keep them busy and (2) save cash is always a good idea. I ran across this 3D snowflake tutorial and had to share it with our fantastic readers. There are also a ton of great snowflake patterns available for you to print and trace. Check out our post HERE with some more traditional 2D snowflake patterns.

Ok, let’s get started…

What you’ll need:

Stapler

Clear Tape

Sharp Scissors

6 Sheets of Paper

Cut the paper. You fold the paper and cut it to make a square, then fold that into the triangle shown. Then make the three cuts, and unfold it.

Fold the square into a cannoli shape, and tape it. Then, turn the whole thing upside down, and fold the two strips the other way. Then flip the whole thing again, and tape together those. Continue until all of the strips are done. Repeat this six times and you will end up with…

Now we put all 6 pieces together.

Hold all of the flakes by the bottom, and… (this is the tricky part) Staple them together. DO NOT PICK THIS UP YET! THIS IS NOT DONE!

Now, you take the last connection on each flake, and staple them to the next one. If you are confused, then look at these pictures. Do this to all of them!

Now step back and admire your creation! This tutorial used plain printer paper but using scrapbook or other types of paper can add much more dimension to your 3D snowflake. You can use scrapbook paper with a different color front and back. Think about using scrapbook paper where one side is glittery or metallic! How pretty would that be?! Check out these pics of snowflakes with different types and colors of paper.
