Why I Chose to Homeschool My Daughter: Part 1

This story started two years ago when Ashlynn started Kindergarten. She was having a hard time identifying letters and numbers. The way the school tests children, is they point to a letter and ask, "What letter is this?" Ashlynn wouldn't be able to tell you what it was. On the other hand, if you asked her "Where is the letter A(or whatever letter it was)?" She would be able to tell you right away.

I spoke to her teacher about it, and the teacher said, we can't test her that way. "We have to test every child the same way, no matter how they learn." I then had a meeting with the Principal, Special Ed, her Kindergarten teacher, and the School Psychologist. I pushed for testing, but they said that they felt that she wasn't behind enough yet and to just keep working with her on it.

We worked really hard everyday after school and by the end of the year she was able to recognize all of the letters and the sounds. But reading was still really hard for her...

I was going to write the whole story in one post, but it was getting long, so I've decided to share it in Three posts. Please stop by again tomorrow for Part 2.
