Art Journaling Workshop for teachers

Yesterday I taught a workshop for teachers in Surrey at the Surrey Nature Park. This is one of the Journal pages i created as a demo.

Here are some handouts – everyone received a bookmark too!

Everyone received a package of art which i created to inspire and help the teachers with their creations. I only had 40 minutes to teach art journaling AND talk about my blogging journey of 10 years. So needless to say the time just zipped by! There was a young teacher teaching knitting in the same room – it was a room bursting with creativity!

Since I had not taught a workshop like this for several months it took me 1 1/2 days to prepare for it………and 40 minutes to teach! Funny eh? Each of the teachers received a blank book with one of my art designs on the front.

Here i am doing teachy things!

It was very gratifying to hear a young teachers comments. She had attended my journal class several months ago and was probably a bit apprehensive because she said she couldn’t draw. And like i usually do I said “of course you can! Just practice and try different things”. Even though 40 minutes is not much time it’s enough time to be inspired. This student loved the journal samples i brought and books as well as the ideas i gave her not to mention the plethora of supplies brought along for the students to use.

After the class she rushed out and bought a whole slew of supplies and hasn’t stopped creating. She showed me one of her drawings – I almost cried when i saw it – it was so beautiful. She’s a true testament to my belief that everyone is creative. You just have to practice, have fun and try different things. This student became an inspiration to another student who also said “I can’t draw”. She piped up and said “I thought I couldn’t either and now i can!” Oh my gosh……..i was so thrilled.

Karen Kilbride the organizer of the event (she’s also a teacher) did a fabulous job of creating a wonderful healing and creative environment for the teachers. She offered Yoga, Art Journaling, Shiatsu and knitting to the teachers. Karen and her team of helpers know how healing and therapeutic the creative arts are so wanted to create a Wellness Event for the teachers.. After the class there was a Greek dinner. All in all it was a pretty fun time for all.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Love, Violette xo
