Let It Snow Garland

Is there anything prettier than snow? I mean, not when it gets all dirty and slushy, but fresh snow in pictures and on holiday cards just can’t be beat. To celebrate the snow (particularly the snow in pictures that I don’t actually have to walk/drive through) I made this really easy felt garland. Here’s how you can make your own.

DIY Let It Snow Garland – what you need:

  • white felt
  • scissors
  • hot glue
  • blue embroidery thread
  • embroidery needle
  • white pom poms

Step 1: Cut out the felt

Cut your white felt into nine small white flags. Mine are about two inches tall. Then start cutting letters out of the center of each one. You can use a template if you have one, but I just eyeballed each one. Make sure you leave at lease a half inch at the top of each flag.

Step 2: String the thread through each letter

Fold the very top of each letter over onto itself and use some hot glue to secure it in place. When the glue is dry, take the embroidery thread and string it through the top of each letter in order.

Step 3: Add the pom poms

You can also add some white pom poms on each side of the letters. Use a needle to string the embroidery thread on each end through about three or four pom poms. This will give it a little more of a “snowy” look.

Step 4: Hang it up

Attach both ends of the garland to a mantle or picture like this one. Cut off any excess thread and enjoy!
