Coming Over A Bit Pollyanna

You’ll excuse this slight interruption to the regular “2014 in review” and “2015 predictions/resolutions” blog fayre. I’m coming over a bit Pollyanna.

“It’s all fun and games until somebody gets hurt” was ringing in my ears as I gracefully tumbled fell arse over tit off the bed when trick-acting with the boys a week or so ago. I ended up with my legs in the air and my back landed on a steel-toe-cap boot belonging to my hubby which was at the end of the bed. His foot wasn’t in said boot I hasten to add. I roared and the boys thought I was messing.

I pushed myself Christmas Eve and included a walk down the town for last minute shopping, a trip to my parents in law and an awful lot of present wrapping that night. Sure it was Christmas after all and I couldn’t let the family down. Christmas Day I was more sore and caved in the afternoon when I sought pain relief from my Mammy (there’s no better source for comfort; the Irish Mammy). By Sunday I could do very little other than lay in bed where the pain wasn’t as bad if I lay sideways.

The GP assures me that my state of being banjaxed will pass. There is a massive bruise all colours of the rainbow on my back with a lovely coordinating lump. I have every reason to be feeling a bit miserable.

You know what though (and bear in mind it could be the wonderful pain relief talking)?

I find myself grateful that it happened over Christmas when my husband is around more often to help me out around the house. It is brilliant that I don’t have to do school runs for another few days. I had already organised a few days off work, and I didn’t have a deadline to work towards. The heat in the house is working, I have wonderful painkillers, and the kids are happy to play with their toys.

My Christmas was otherwise wonderful. I got some brilliant presents including some new runners that I will walk the soles off as soon as I’m better, driving lessons, and a new Kindle that has come in very handy the past few days. Family members came home from abroad, we all celebrated together, Santa came to all the children, and we have really felt the magic this year.

This evening I’ll raise a mug of tea in celebration of strong painkillers, wonderful family and my readers.

Thank you for commenting, sharing, mailing and supporting Wholesome Ireland. I really appreciate it. There’s plenty more to come although I’m sure you’ll understand why things are a little quieter than normal at the moment.

The feature image is one of my family and I, taken just a few short weeks ago. Obviously I’m biased but I still think it’s a great photo.

So from the very edge of my office chair I’ll head off to lie down for a short while.

Nollaig Shona agus Athbhliain faoi Mhaise Daoibh!
