Portuguese Tiles

Home from home

Ahh, Portugal, my second home. Miguel and I visit family here every year (you might remember posts from the last time in December?), but this time our trip was a little more significant than usual – we were going to sort bits and bobs out for our wedding next year. I don’t want to talk about that too much here, as I’ll dedicate a post to where we’re at in the planning process, but one of the reasons we wanted to visit at this time of year was to get a sense of how the weather might be.

Apparently that didn’t work out too well as it turned out Portugal was having a bit of a heatwave, and that 30°C temperatures aren’t overly normal in May. I bloomin’ well hope not, because I felt just right in this little floaty number – I can’t imagine how well I’d fare in a wedding dress! But we’ll find out I suppose…

I feel like I grow a little fonder of Portuguese culture every time I visit the country. I certainly grow fonder of the pastries, as Miguel’s grandmother knows well – we were presented with a box of pastéis de nata as soon as we landed at the airport, and I quickly had to remind her that I had a wedding to prepare for…! We certainly didn’t protest too much, though.

More from Portugal coming soon!
