Answer These Questions To Check If Your Child Is Preschool Ready

Preschools in NYC have a designated age wherein they start taking in admissions to their classes. However, it does not mean that your child is ready to start the schooling. There are a few things that you need to take care of, as a parent, before you send off the child to the preschool. The initial preparation for going to a preschool NYC involves the active participation of the parents. If you get an affirmative answer to the list of question explained before, you will know that it is time to take the next logical step for the child. In other cases, you might want to experience the listed things before your child takes admission in a preschool.

Can your child complete daily tasks independently?

Even though most of the preschools in NYC offer facilities of a support staff to help the children in accomplishing simple tasks like eating, attending nature’s call, tying shoelaces or riding the swings, etc, if your child knows how to do these things on their own, they will be more comfortable being in school. Kids might not open to everyone in the school. If they feel uncomfortable going to the washroom with the help of support staff, it may create a resistance towards school eventually.

Is your child capable of spending time away from you?

One of the issues that teachers face in preschools is the fact that kids feel unprotected if they do not see familiar faces around them. While it is okay to feel so to a certain extent, overcoming this issue to enjoy the activities in the school is more important. If your child has not spent time away from you, the chances are that the school environment will get too intimidating for them. Hence, organizing such activities where they do not see you around and still manage to keep themselves occupied will help them before you send them off to school.

How do you rate their activity level?

There are so many activities and educational toys available in the stores these days to make them learn and keep them creatively occupied. You should judge the level of independence in these activities. If they can perform all these activities with little or no help, then they will probably be able to do all the classwork on their own without getting hassled about the task assigned. You might need to assist them through these tasks for a while, but eventually, they should be able to pick up the pace.
