Moving and Our Current State of Living

Moving will put even the professional organizer to the test, whether downsizing or upsizing. Check out what are place looks like two days after moving in.

Well we are all moved in. As in, all of our stuff is in the new house and apartment keys have been turned in.

The move went pretty smooth with only a blanket being lost (then later retrieved off the side of the road)! It took 12 loads to get everything over.

Raymond and I started bringing non-essentials bit by bit with my parents coming to the rescue on Saturday with truck and trailer.

Now for the fun part - organizing and decorating!

I have some serious organizing challenges ahead of me with this house. Each home presents its own set of limitations in terms of function.

I definitely feel overwhelmed when it comes to decorating. We need some furniture, both inside and out. But we are trying to be patient in hopes of finding a few good deals along the way.

So without further ado - here is our current state of living. :)

From the front door looking in to the formal living room and dining room.

There's not enough room in the closet for both mine & Raymond's clothes. So his currently live on a rolling rack.

I've stacked all artwork, mirrors, and anything that hangs on the wall together. I'm hoping this will make it easy to decorate.

I've also grouped my "pretties" together so when it comes time to style I'll be able to see what we have at a quick glance.

From the dining room looking into the massive kitchen.

I refuse to set up the kitchen in a hurry. I've not had a day to devote to organizing the space at this point. Most is unpacked and sitting on the counter so I can then assess what will go where.

Hallway - where things move when I don't know where they will live.

The "TV Room". Our current inventory of furniture (which isn't much) landed here.

Master bedroom. I've been working to set this space up first in terms of organized and decorated. We sold our previous bed on Craigslist before moving. I found the black tufted headboard at Value Village for $30 and the bedframe at the dumpster for $0. ;) #winning

On our list to buy are nightstands, a dresser (to be shared), electric fireplace, and drapes. I will redesign the closet so we can coexist in the space without wanting to kill each other. ;)

The end of the hallway into the bathroom. This is the only bathroom downstairs so we are going to make a go of it in terms of sharing and keeping it clean for guests.

The space is small and only comes with a linen cabinet behind the door. I'm trying to figure out what we will do with all of our bathroom supplies.

The bathroom does have this small cabinet to the left. I love the decorative aspect but haven't decided on its function.

There are 3 bedrooms upstairs. The largest will be the home office. Much work is needed on this space. I've been working off the dining room table and bed. :P #notwinning

There are SO many closets upstairs and we are trying to figure out exactly what will live in each. Raymond has stuffed his golf stuff in a hall closet for now.

The other two bedrooms are reallly small. The pitch of the ceiling is pretty steep which presents some challenges. We've termed this "Raymond's Fun Room (aka Man Cave)".

The laundry is upstairs. We are in search of a washer and dryer. In the meantime, dirty clothes are piling up on the floor. :P

The coat closet is downstairs by the bathroom and made completely of cedar (!!).

I moved our previous organizing system over to the closet door to organize our winterwear. I don't love it but it works for now.

So there you have it. A hot mess of a dwelling with lots of work ahead. I'm trying to find the balance between function and fancy all while not going into debt. ;)
