Blonde Care: Aveda Blue Malva Shampoo + Conditioner

Maintaining blonde hair comes with its fair share of challenges. Light hair colors are easily tinted by things like excess buildup, chlorine, well water, etc., and one of the most common unwanted tones is brassiness. My favorite way to combat this is with purple shampoos, because they’re easy and really do a great job.

I’ve recently started using the Aveda Blue Malva Shampoo and Conditioner about once a week, and I love them! The shampoo makes my hair look and feel fantastic: clean, bouncy, and the perfect champagne blonde color. I like to work it into my strands and leave it a minute or two so the purple tones can really soak in. Then I rinse and apply the conditioner, which is great as well. This is the first purple conditioner I’ve ever tried, but the concept makes sense: because hair absorbs conditioner, it should absorb and lock in the cool purple tint that cancels out brassy tones. I find it adds a little extra toning when combined with the shampoo, although it is definitely on the lighter side in terms of consistency and moisture. The combination keeps my blonde locks in check! However, if you were going to choose just one, I would recommend the shampoo, as I think it does a little more work than the conditioner.

Do you use any color-tinting products to keep your hair the way you like it? Blondes, what is the best purple shampoo you’ve used?
