Olaplex – the saviour for coloured and damaged hair

Hair dressers and stylists love it, as this Olapex allows you to go from one colour to another, again and again – with a minimum of damage done to your precious tresses. This is how artists and celebrities manage to change their appearances seemingly overnight and still show off with amazing looking coifs, as well on stage as on the red carpet.

We obviously talk about Olaplex, an intense conditioning treatment that helps hair to repair and maintain its internal sulphur bonds, which can be damaged by for instance heat, dyeing or bleaching. Olaplex is adapted mainly for use in combination with chemical treatments; and gives a more lasting and vital effect on coloured hair, but the products can also be employed on healthy hair, or simply as a hair pick me up.

The repair is done in three steps, where two of them are executed in a salon, by a hair dresser or hair technician. Step one is the Bond Multiplier, which typically is mixed into the colour, dye, bleach, perm liquid or even in water, depending on what treatment you are in for. Step two, the Bond Perfector, is then applied after the treatment, alternatively added to the Bond Multiplier, to further strengthen and build up the individual hairs. Step three is for the consumer to take home and use in between her salon appointments.

Olaplex was created by two US researchers from the fields of Materials and Chemistry, who had no previous experience of cosmetics products. The formula is free from silicon, sulphates, oil and aldehydes and kind to as well the user as also the therapist. In addition, all three products are agreeable (or so I have been told) to use, without strong smell or any unpleasant sensations. The scent of the home treatment is actually very nice – subtle and fresh.

While I did not yet have the chance to enjoy the full Olaplex salon experience, I have tried out step three, Hair Perfector, which is applied in dry hair before washing. My hair is always on the dry and damaged side, especially now after the summer, and I do have the feeling that it kind of soaks up as much of the Olaplex goodness as only possible during the 10-15 minutes I leave the product on, before washing and conditioning as usual.

After three Olaplex Hair Perfector applications, my hair definitely appears shinier and healthier, and this effect also lasts between the cures, even after washing and heat styling. I actually cannot wait to try step one and two as well!
