Military-Inspired Cropped Jacket and Jersey Dress

My love of cropped jackets is no secret. I find them to be chic and edgy with the ability to turn a simple dress into something a bit more special. I’ve wanted to make a cropped jacket for a while but kept putting it off until I found the perfect fabric, so when I spotted this AMAZING Calvin Klein wool from MoodFabrics.com I was sold. This is the perfect coat/jacket fabric with its heavier weight and warm and fuzzy feel inside. It cuts beautifully and considering the thickness it sews very easily.

The pattern used for this jacket is this downloaded BurdaStyle, with the following alterations:

• Removed 14″ from the bottom of the pattern

• Added leather to the arm bands and neck

• Added buttons to the arm bands and neck

• Added metal zippers to the jacket front

• Added 4″ to the length of the sleeves

• Added snap closures for the neck and jacket opening

• Lined with this charmeuse from MoodFabrics.com

This quick, simple and uber-comfortable dress was made with this ponte knit from MoodFabrics.com, definitely a staple fabric that’s easy to sew and feels fantastic. I made this dress with this downloaded BurdaStyle pattern, with the following alterations:

• Added 8″ to the bottom of the pattern

• Placed the zipper at the back seam instead of the side

• Removed the back vent
