NOOSA GETAWAY | 180 DEGREES

180 Degrees

Type ‘designer Noosa getaway’ into google and you will be directed to the ominous looking Stayz site straight off the bat. However, if you’re like us, you may be more than just a little sceptical when it comes to looking for beautiful, well designed holiday accommodation on the net. Too often the words ‘luxury’, ‘five star’ and ‘designer furnishings’ are bandied about in a bid to describe interiors that, 9 times out of ten, have us fighting back tears of disappointment as we step over the threshold. We find ourselves trying in vein to rally our spirits by attempting to tell ourselves that looks don’t matter – it’s a holiday. Relax. Who cares that the microsuede sofa is covered in weird looking stains – it’s a holiday, just let it be. (Putting aside the fact that microsuede sofas should be outlawed as a whole other issue.)

Errm…hello? Have we met? It’s our holiday not a prison stay. AS IF looks don’t matter? We’ve worked too hard trawling the damn internet and that god forsaken Stayz site for 100 hours ‘researching’ in a quest to achieve the holy grail of suitable accommodation for a family of five. Why is it so damn hard to find actual accommodation that truthfully matches its ‘designer’ description. At 180 Degrees in Noosa we can hand on heart vouch for true design appeal here after staying for a week with the family earlier this year.

We got to experience first hand just how good that vantage point is looking over Main Beach right through to Fraser Island and almost the entire Noosa Sound area from the high side of Hastings street. After stepping out of the inclinator and through the front door of this penthouse apartment your heart will sink, not in disappointment, but because you only have a week here – not ten!

Working alongside Brisbane architecture firm DM2, Melbourne based interior designers Sanders & King oversaw the interior fitout and remodelling of what was once a very tired, largely original 1980′s apartment located in a prime position with spectacular views. (You may recall Taimi Sanders and Elissa King from this issue here.) Set out over 5 split levels, Sanders & King worked with the architects to open up the interior spaces by adding a new open tread staircase to allow natural light to penetrate from above and a clean fresh new palette of finishes for a more contemporary feel.

With four bedrooms set out over three levels, the brief for Sanders & King was to create a true family holiday home with a certain level of luxury that would not be deemed as being too precious but was ultimately kid friendly as well. Incorporating multiple bedrooms, bathrooms, living spaces and outdoor seating areas ensures that now 2 large families can be accommodated here with ease. The hillside pool on the top level flows on from the kids lounge area equipped with cable TV and games, giving everyone their own zone to retreat to. For us it was adults out the front, kids out the back in what they liked to refer to as their ‘crib’.

High quality Cotto d’Este Italian porcelain tiles were used throughout and all furniture, light fittings and artworks were carefully considered by both the designers, and the owners, to ensure that this holiday getaway still felt like a home. Walls lined in timber boards from Royal Oak Floors add warmth and character while a framed vintage ‘lifesavers’ poster in the kitchen adds to the relaxed holiday feel of the home. Bemboka blankets have been used on each and every bed together with bedside lighting by Artemide while the master bedroom with killer views both from the bed and the shower, had us stripping the sheets from the bed looking for the make and model of the mattress so that we could buy one just like it.

Trust us – you will never want to leave.
