Stylish Swedish Studio Apartment Lives Large

We discovered this gem on the website of Alvhem interior design and instantly wanted to share it. Situated on the fifth floor of a lovely building in Gothenburg, Sweden, this studio apartment boasts neighborhood views. A mere 484 square feet, it has a full integrated kitchen, large entry and bathroom.

The apartment was in reasonably good condition when the owner, an architect, bought it in 2010. But she saw some room for improvement. The most radical change was to take down the wall between the kitchen and living room. The result is clearly positive; the apartment seems much larger and is better suited for socializing.

Many of the original elements were preserved, such as the paneled doors, stucco walls, cast iron details, white-painted plank flooring and stone windowsills. These features give the apartment a stylish character.

The color scheme was planned in gray and white, which provides a neutral base for decorating. The living room is airy and bright, with several windows facing the quiet Olivedalsgatan neighborhood. The high floor offers a beautiful view of the adjacent facades and rooftops.

There is plenty of space for the sofa and bed, as well as a workspace with a desk. Behind a profiled door, there is a dressing room with ample closet space; a small bed provides space for guests.

The old kitchen felt cut off from the rest of the apartment. Now it is a central location, a creative place where the inhabitants can prepare meals while socializing with guests. (Photos courtesy of Alvhem)
