Whimsical Hudson Valley wedding: Jacquelyn + Alex

The Basilica Hudson is already a magical venue for a fall wedding, but Jacquelyn’s Old Hollywood inspired silk gown, their whimsical DIY projects (hello paper flowers!), and all the spots W. Scott Chester snapped incredible portraits at? Now we’re onto something. Even all the string lighting throughout the reception looks extra special… See what we mean:

J says, Opals are my absolute favorite and are a thing that my father and I always shared when I was a little girl, so when I found a beautiful huge blue opal in Marfa I just knew it needed to be my something blue for the day. I had it custom made into a cocktail ring for me and the remaining pieces into cufflinks for my father as his father of the bride gift!

Jacquelyn Alex are creative types (she’s an art director founder of SHHHOWERCAP he’s a designer and design director for Coca Cola) so you can imagine how much thought went into each planning moment during their two year engagement. Not to mention J’s dad owns a set design company… He helped build a ton of pieces based off inspiration from Pinterest, like the paper flowers, hanging ivy backdrop, geometric sculptures, cutouts with the date, and abstract centerpieces. And those banners? Posters that Alex designed—he creates one every year for their anniversary.

We loved Scott’s unique approach to capturing weddings and his eye for composition, but the thing we loved the most was his creative portraits. He spent time location scouting before the wedding day and found a number of unique and creative locations to shoot us at. We shot under a giant willow tree, in shop windows, next to an abandoned factory and in someone’s backyard! And of course, the hill. See more portraits in the gallery below:

Their tips: Try to focus on what you remember most about the weddings that you attend and spend your budget accordingly. Prioritize the personal touches over the upgraded floral arrangements because that is what really makes it yours. Above all, it’s important to remember that weddings can be whatever you want them to be. You don’t have to follow any rules. It’s your day and it should be whatever makes you, you.

    Wishing you the best!
