I know that pineapples are a hot decorator trend at the moment. I am particularly aware of this fact because our youngest son is completely obsessed with all things pineapple, whether it is real, painted, printed or cast. So you can imagine that when I saw this new fabric line, “Fresh Market” by Bella Blvd for Riley Blake Designs, I immediately knew that I had to make him a new quilt.
Because seriously…. look at those pineapples!!
Even the colour dots on the selvedge are pineapples. There may or may not have been a lot of excited squealing when I saw that detail. I will never tell!
It’s a beautifully balanced fabric line – with a nice range of print scale – large to tiny, some great tone on tone and those hits of black to really add the pop that a good collection needs. Think of it the same as music – you need everything from high notes to low notes to make a symphony. Fabric is no different – contrast is vital for balance.
Of course – three different prints that are all pineapple are just the icing on this particular cake! I love how this range is actually not over the top flowery and girly – more bright, fresh and fun. I can see using this fabric for picnics, splashes of colour cushions, or in the kitchen with aprons and potholders!
For Sam’s quilt I am using my Sizzix half hexagon die…. it will dramatically cut down my cutting time and because it’s half hexagons the blocks will sew up quickly without any annoying y-seams or tricky seams.
