Sunday Life #5 - Dumfries Arms Hotel & Dumfries House

There is nothing I love more than an adventure, however big or small, and when me and my boyfriend realised we shared the same two days off (which never happens) we knew we had to do something fun with them. We spotted a wee online voucher deal for the Dumfries Arms Hotel which included an overnight stay, dinner and breakfast which was exactly what we were looking for.

On arrival I was completely blown away by all of the beautiful flowers that flooded the reception areas, their had been a wedding the day before and all the flowers were still in place, an instagram addicts heaven! Once we had dumped our bags in the room and admired the cosy decor we decided to take a little stroll around the town, the hotel is in Cummnock. There wasn't a whole lot going on as it was late Sunday afternoon but it was nice to take a wander regardless.
We headed back to the hotel bar to enjoy some drinks before heading up to get ourselves spruced up for dinner. The food was incredible, and considering we were ordering from a small menu that goes along with the voucher, the choice, quality and presentation was fabulous. If you do ever find yourself using a voucher here though my advice would be to get the small print out of the way before you even order your drinks as we got caught out on quite a few hidden charges that could have easily been avoided. We didn't necessarily mind it just kind of defeated the purpose of having the voucher, but we would have easily paid full price for the meal we enjoyed as it was wonderful. After dinner we headed back to the hotel bar to spend the rest of our night enjoying drinks and people watching.

Breakfast the next morning was delicious, and again considering this was part of a voucher deal I couldn't believe the choice and quality. After breakfast we weren't really sure what to do with ourselves so done a little investigating on trip advisor to see what was close by, Dumfries House seemed to be the most popular attraction so we decided to pay it a visit.
We were very lucky that it was a beautiful day as on arrival we discovered that you could only visit the actual house by guided tour, and they were all fully booked for that day, however as it was such a beautiful day we were more than happy to spend time strolling around the grounds and pay a visit to the Queen Elizabeth Gardens.
The gardens were breathtakingly beautiful, I don't have the greenest of thumbs but everything was just so perfect, I could have sat there watching the world go by for hours. The grounds of Dumfries House themselves are gorgeous too and completely free, I would most definitely recommend a visit here if your ever passing by or live close by. It's so lovely to spend the day outside surrounded by such beautiful scenery.
This was such a lovely way to spend the bank holiday, I love little unplanned adventures, I would recommend anyone to keep an eye out for any vouchers again for this hotel as it was such a lovely stay. Let me know how you guys love to spend your days off, I am always looking for some inspiration!
