Stylish Wanderlust: Get to Know Collage Vintage

Sara Escudero and Diego Anciano are the globetrotting duo behind fashion and travel blog, Collage Vintage. Collage Vintage started in 2009 as Sara's everyday escape from the advertising industry, and quickly transitioned from a hobby to a full-time job. Sara's effortless yet experimental style is the driving force behind her content, backed by she and Diego's everlasting wanderlust. Check out our interview with Sara below!

What’s your story?

I started my blog in 2009 as a hobby to share my fashion passion with others, and to escape from the routine of my everyday work in the advertising agency. In the beginning, my idea was to create collages of trends and styles that inspired me, so my first choice name was "collage," but this time period also coincided with my long getaways to London where I became addicted to vintage stores. I used to spend the weekends with my friends trying on weird garments, shopping for bargains, and picking unexpected outfits to go out, so one of my friends told me that I should add the word "vintage" to my blog name.

At this time, fashion blogs were getting their start, and there were few people doing the same thing. It was so fun because I started making virtual friends with whom I spoke about fashion, trends, etc. – we were like a fashion virtual family, and today I still have some of those friends. Today, everything has changed. Blogs have become more professional, and I have evolved in terms of style and quality. For me, blogging is not only a hobby now, but also a full-time job.

If you had to choose three words to describe your style, what would they be?

Experimental, Eclectic, Effortless.

What are some of your go-to sources for inspiration?

I love spending hours surfing on Pinterest and Tumblr. I also love reading fashion magazines, and getting inspiration from their editorials. But traveling to other countries is by far my biggest source of inspiration; I'm always paying attention to what I see on the streets, what the people wear there, and their fashion point of view to get fresh and different ideas.

If you had to choose five fashion pieces to wear for the rest of your life, what would they be?

Only five? It would be so boring! I'd choose the items that are always in my closet that I could never get tired of wearing: my favorite pair of jeans, leather biker jacket in black, cream cable-knit sweater, striped top and white sneakers to walk comfy the rest of my life.

How do you decide where you’re going to travel to next?

Sometimes the work chooses my next trip, like my trip to New York this time, but when we can decide where to travel we always pick places where we've never been to that are on our must-see travel list. We love good weather and the beach, so normally we choose places that fit these requirements, but we also like discovering big exciting cities, so it depends on the time of the year. For example we will spend New Years Eve in Thailand to escape from our city and have some time to relax with good weather, and we're planing to visit Australia next year for a month of traveling around by car.

Any must-know travel advice to share?

So many! But let's go with my beloved country, Spain. If you have never been here before, it's beautiful. There are so many different places to discover that you're surely going to love. You can do a road trip around the North (Asturias, Pais Vasco, Galicia) for a green landscape, amazing beaches, good food and charming villages; or, travel to the south and enjoy good weather, endless beaches, and beautiful cities like Sevilla, Granada, Cádiz or Córdoba. Also I recommend you visit Formentera, a paradise island – my favorite place for my summer holidays.

What’s your all-time favorite city and why?

I love so many cities. Paris and Venice are the most beautiful to travel around, New York always surprise me when I visit – it's always fun and something new is always happening – and I love what LA makes me feel.

What advice would you give to a blogger trying to follow in your footsteps?

Be different, natural and unique. There are a lot of people doing it, and it's pretty hard to distinguish them. But if you work hard, put a lot of passion in what you love, and show different content, you can definitely make it.

Your photos are amazing, what’s your process like?

Thanks so much! We take pics almost every day to share what I'm wearing with readers. When I stay in my city, it's easier because I have all my clothes with me, so I can pick an outfit that I want to wear, and take advantage of our daily routine to take the pictures somewhere nice. When I travel, I have to choose what I'm going to wear in advance, and have to stay organized when packing. Once in the new city, we look for beautiful new places to shoot, so I can create my must-see places guide – "collageontheroad" – to inspire my readers. Diego always take the pics, and I select and retouch them the night before posting. Together we're a great team ;).

If you didn’t become a blogger, what would you be doing?

I studied advertising and graphic design, and I worked for some years in an advertising agency as an event planner, so I imagine I would be doing that.

Last question, any shows you can’t stop watching?

I'm addicted to newer TV Shows like The Affair, Walking Dead, and The Good Wife, as well as my old-time favorite like Friends, Frasier, and Sex and The City.
