10 Creative Ways to Decorate Your Kitchen on the Cheap

Many people spend a majority of their time at home in the kitchen. It’s the hub for all things food, and of course conversation with family and/or roommates.

Unfortunately, the kitchen is usually the last room in the house to get upgraded, but a well-decorated kitchen that reflects your style, not only improves your decor, but it may even inspire you to cook at home more. And in return, save money.

Whether you just moved into a new place, or you’re tired of the kitchen you have, here are 10 creative ways to re-vamp your kitchen without breaking the bank:

1. Pick a theme

Do you have a garden? Do you love coffee or wine? Maybe daisies are your favorite flowers or you love chili peppers and spicy food. A themed kitchen can be a lot of fun. Pick a theme, and then start shopping. When you have a specific theme in mind you will be surprised at what kitchen items you can find to fit that theme. From kitsch accessories, to pictures and patterned towels, you can create a theme that’s fun, quirky and all yours.

2. Paint your cabinets a fun color

A great way to express yourself in your kitchen is with the use of a bit of color. The sky is the limit when it comes to your creativity and a splash of color on the cabinets really makes the kitchen pop!

3. Add some woodwork detail

Do you have a breakfast bar area that everyone sits at? A common problem with these is that the wall under the counter gets smudged with footprints and dirt. Consider putting bead board or decorative wood panels on the bottom wall for some added style.

4. Accent with chalkboard paint

Consider painting a cabinet door or one wall in your kitchen with chalkboard paint. This is fun to write out your daily meal plans or for your family to write notes to one another.

5. Create a windowsill herb garden

Do you have some favorite herbs that you cook with everyday? If so, you can plant them in little post by your windowsill. That way you’ll always have quick access to them for cooking.

6. Change the flooring

If you want a fun change consider picking out new tile, or pretty wood laminate floors. You can even paint your floors with a fun design or stain them, which will give your kitchen a whole new look.

7. Make some curtains

Find a fun pattern or design that matches your color scheme and add some curtains to your kitchen windows instead of blinds. This will bring in natural sunlight and it’ll make your kitchen look larger.

8. Add a tile backsplash

The wall space between your countertops and upper cabinets can be a breeding ground for stains and spots from food splashes and water. When you install a tile backsplash it will be much easier to clean, and you can find an array of patterns, colors, and styles to match any home decor.

9. Create a coffee bar

Nothing says hospitality like a warm cup of coffee. Find an area in your kitchen where you can hang coffee cups near your coffee pot. Consider displaying pretty coffee syrups as well.

10. Display your aprons

Find a nice wooden or metal hanging rack with pegs to hang your aprons from. You can hang them outside of a pantry door or on the side of a cabinet. It can bring a sweet, feminine touch to any kitchen.

Of course, if you really hate the look of your kitchen, all the creative methods you choose won’t make it better. The biggest creative move you can make is to look for custom made kitchens in Melbourne to suit your creative spark – it may be a little more expensive than some of the items we’ve mentioned, but it’ll bring you a room that suits you perfectly.

Whatever your taste, bring your creativity out in your kitchen and create a place that your family and friends will love to cook, eat, and hang out in. It could be the best room in your house!
