5 Simple Spring Decorating Tips

I thought to show off my ideas today offering 5 simple Spring decorating tips.

Simple Spring Decorating Tips #1. Progressively Create and Group Seasonal Vignettes

I like to prepare for major events, like Easter, a step at a time. Now, one week before Easter, we have quite a few displays that celebrate the best of Easter. It’s fun to have them around.

But my tip is this: come time to deck the Easter brunch table, it will be an instant gathering of mini- displays and load them onto the table. The vignettes match style and color. While they are true vignettes in their own right, when it’s will be Easter brunch time, they group together well. This might be my best tip as it has worked for me over the years.

You will find several of my vignettes in this article. They are very colorful this year, combining pastels with full colors: with pastel blue Robin eggs, bright and soft pinks, pale moss green, purples and mauve, and of course the various colors of browns of nature… and chocolate!

The first one is in simple blues and naturals. The Robin eggs and this simple nest that I made from a few garden twigs are on the fireplace mantel in my office / dining room. I place it front of a frame quote from Thoreau.

Simple Spring Decorating Tips #2. Add lots of flowers.

Last week I popped some daffodils in a teapot and created another vignette with mini silk roses and a variety of handmade and decorative Easter eggs.

The daffodils in the pot are gone now and I replaced them with some silk flowers, which looks festive. Come Friday, I’ll add in a fresh bunch of daffodils and the arrangement will be full and complete. I’ll tell you about all the various handmade Easter eggs in another post. (Or, if you are really curious, here’s how to make tissue paper decoupage eggs)

Spring Decorating Tips 3. Add fresh houseplants.

Particularly these houseplants with the white flowers clean the air and are marvelous to have around the house. Their shape is elegant, so that’s helpful as well. Have a look back at the second vignette with the Easter bunny. Those are the plants that I so love!

Fresh flowers always make me feel abundant and so I try to have some around whenever I can. As well, I’d like to buy potted flower plants, which last longer and which can later on be planted in the garden for a longer life. If you are lucky, you’ll get some new flowers next year.

The giant bunny is displayed on top of a cabinet next to my Bose box /iPhone stand. The bunny dominates the space and hides electronics a bit (thank you, bunny!). I know everyone is doing bunnies in mason jars, but this bunny is truly large. I wanted to show off its height by placing it in an average size basket. The eggs around it are 2 inch eggs, also large. I had no purple flower to decorate the basket with, so I quickly whipped on up. (Tutorial here: how to make paper flowers.)

The Easter bunny vignette was very quick to put together. My third vignette is already on my dining table. I placed it on my marble lazy susan. Which brings me to my second Spring decorating tip…

Spring Decorating Tips #4: Add flowers in outdoor places where you will see them from inside.

From my desk I look out onto this garden path. As it is fully shaded, its great for ferns and certain plants but typically not good for flowers. Some people might dread alleys like this and in many of my neighbors’ houses, this alley is a storage ‘disgrace’.

Sometimes ignorance is bliss. As a Feng Shui ‘expert’, I realize that this alley is ‘a missing corner of my home. It is in the ‘knowledge’ area of my Feng Shui bagua. Therefore, to make it come alive, I added purple flowers, blues and green. I also created layers of texture along what was a barren wall to create vertical visual interest.

I spruced up the garden path with colored planters, native flowers that bloom in the shade, colorful garden art.

Besides the grass sider, I hung up some planters really high, so that the flowers in there will at least get enough light albeit no sun. But none would know, because it looks very happy. And, again, this would add vertical interest.

This vignette of daffodils in also in that shady alley garden. I raised the flowerbed onto the top of the stairs that lead to the French doors from my office.

I actually raised this bed so that I can see it from my kitchen window.

Raising the planter also gave the flowers more light. The narcissus didn’t seem to mind the lack of direct sunshine now that they got a bit of extra light.

Spring Decorating Tips #5: Start Preparing for Summer.

Set out the summer table set for a day, and deck the table with some home-grown vegetables in a pot, giving them a sun bath. While it may be still too cold to sit outside, having ‘food’ on the table, and starting to use your outdoor furniture, makes you feel like …. it’s almost summer!!!

And there you have it. My simple Spring Decorating tips to create a happy, hippy, healthy home. (smile).

What do you think of it?
Have a great day, all, and till tomorrow!
Hugs,
Rose
