A Volumising Hair System That Works?

I’m not usually one to enter in to products that make claims about thickening, toning, firming or whatever, but I tried the Volumising Dry Shampoo by Swell and I was more than impressed, so I decided to give their three-step system a go and share the results (if any) on here…

For reference, my hair is normal/fine – very soft but occasionally dull. I like lots of volume, lots of body and tonnes of texture! I wasn’t expecting to see a change with these (I went in with a very cynical attitude), but I’ve actually noticed a difference – my hair has definitely got a little more texture, feels a touch thicker and looks a whole lot healthier. I also think it doesn’t get greasy as quickly, which is ideal!

Each of the Swell products uses the brands own Root Nutrient Complex, a blend of 18 botanical extracts to nourish the follicles. The products themselves smell very ‘essential oils’, and quite medicinal – I use a lot of natural products, so I personally adore this scent – it makes me think of goodness! The Swell Advanced Volumising Shampoo (£25) feels like any shampoo, but the brand say it’s concentrated so I use a lot less than I usually would – I also now wash my hair every second day which is pretty awesome.
The Swell Advanced Volumising Conditioner (£28) is quite similar – I don’t think there’s much difference in terms of formula or application to your usual shampoo and conditioners, although the brand do use a chart to determine how much product to use. I use the shampoo only at my roots, and rinse well, and then apply the conditioner only at the ends of my hair and rinse again. The conditioner detangles hair impressively well, doesn’t weigh down the locks and rinses out easily – it also helps to keep the hair glossy and full between styles too.

There’s also a third step that I use; the Swell Advanced Root Nutrient Complex (£32), again this just provides loads of nourishment for the follicles, so the hair can grow thick and luscious. I spritz this on to my roots and scalp after washing, it’s invisible on the hair and it doesn’t feel sticky or whatever once dry. I feel like this is the game-changer amongst the three, it seems to be working its magic on my hair and I’m definitely enjoying the results.

The products are free of silicones, parabans, SLS and aren’t tested on animals. I’ve only been using the trio for a couple of weeks now, but I’m hoping the results I’ve already seen will improve with use. Even just noticing my hair is thicker from a few applications is enough to keep me interested!
If you’re thinking about trialling the system, I would try the 3-Step System (£23.50) first, or even buy the Swell Advanced Root Nutrient Complex alone and use it as often as possible. The range is quite pricey, but it’s something to get involved in if you are sick of having such fine hair – I almost got a weave as I was so fed up with my thin, dull hair – so picking up a good range of haircare was easily the more affordable option!

A great range from a brand that is currently taking over my haircare drawer! Have you tried Swell?
