Lip Oils: The New Beauty Essential?

After multiple lip oils launching at the beginning of this year it’s official: lip oils are the new thing. Forget balms, glosses or tints, these are the new all in one. Claiming to provide the glossy look without the stick factor, a colour plus long lasting tint and more hydration than a balm.

I’ve put two to the test, firstly the Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil. The standout about this is the incredibly large but squishy applicator – it rocks. Practically coating the lip in one go and making the product easy to use. I’m not too sure if it did anything miraculous, it didn’t seem to provide different hydration effects compared to a balm but hung around the lips a lot longer. The shade above is Honey, a clear gloss with a hint of brightening yellow but there’s also a Raspberry colour.

The real winners for me were the YSL Tint in Oils. Wow are these guys game changers. With 8 shades to choose from they lightly leave a veil of colour over the lips, a super glossy almost vinyl look without any heavy or sticky feeling. They fade away to leave a stain of colour evenly over the lips. I’m completely obsessed, so much so I’ve picked up a couple more shades. I think my favourite remains 5 a bright, vivid pink. Oh and did I mention the awesome curved applicator that fits right into the groove of your lips?

Do you think you’ll be swayed by the lip oil trend? I could get used to this all in one thing…
