Located a little outside of the city center in a residential area, we thought we were totally lost. But thanks to a couple of graphic installations and brightly colored tiles around the building, we found it.

The Berlinische Galerie is a museum of modern art, photography and architecture in Berlin. It’s name and the not-so-enormous-size that museums often have makes this place feel like a large gallery. It is a showcase for art in Berlin and features a mix of fine art, photography and architecture. Being so focussed on the local, brings a nice perspective as all the individual works express different views on the same place. The permanent collection consists of work that was made during the time leading up to WWII until 1980. It really makes you experience all the moods of the city, seeing the works of East-Berlin artists next to West-Berlin artists was very interesting. The permanent collection also includes an extensive collection of the DaDa art movement with many works of Hannah Höch, Expressionists Otto Dix, Georg Grosz but also more recent contemporary works and installations.

/ They are temporary closed for renovations but will open again in spring 2015. If you find yourself in town, this is a nice place to spend a couple of hours.
