Currently Loving: Whitewashed Brick Walls
By Victoria of SF Girl by Bay
I love the look of old brick walls once they’re given a fresh coat of white paint. While weathered brick is lovely on its own, too, there’s something airy and modern about a whitewashed wall. The look is still warm and cozy, but the paint gives the space a facelift and significantly brightens up the room. Case in point: Hally’s Restaurant (above and below) in London, designed by Alexander Waterworth. Though it’s a commercial restaurant, I think the space is so homey and beautiful, and could easily be translated into a home kitchen.

This loft-like bedroom features a frame-less bed and the white-brick wall essentially functions as a headboard. The look is modern, but still cozy. Photo via One Nordic Furniture, which created those fabulous light fixtures.
A former factory building near Lille, France, was converted into this beautiful family home. Despite the industrial characteristics of the building, the couple painted the walls white to help create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Photo via Rum Hemma.
